Danalynn Williams

Executive Director

Danalynn Williams, Proud member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation territory. Lived on many First Nation territories in the past, such as Aamjiwnaang (Sarnia) Bkejwanong (Walpole Island) Oneida, Chippewas of the Thames, Keewaywin, Sandy Lake, and Brunswick House (Chapleau).

My life's journey was directed to these different territories through my policing career. Retiring from policing took me in a new direction and has guided me to help my First Nation people with environmental issues. I started with the Aamjiwnaang First Nation territory as a coop student while I was studying environmental technology at Fanshawe College, being in this capacity lead me to further my interest in phragmites control. It was during a seminar in Chatham, Ontario that I heard a presentation by Dr Janice Gilbert, the founder and executive director of IPCC, about the negative impact that phragmites has on the land and water ways. Having many family members on Walpole Island, Kettle and stoney point, it was apparent that this was a devastating issue on these First Nation territories. In 2020, I started a non-profit organization, First Nation Phragmites Control with the hopes to assist territories in need of Phragmites control and the training of my people.

I was raised by respectful parents, Grandparents, and generations of ancestors from the Moraviantown and Aamjiwnaang territories. I was taught to fish and hunt respectfully with the honour and pride to respect the land and all that it provides. I live by my teachings and apply those in everyday life, with all humanity and living creatures.
